This article contains complete information for AYUSH: A Hello Mentor Guide

The Ministry of AYUSH, since its inception in 2014, aims to amalgamate the traditional healthcare systems of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy with modern medicinal techniques. Over the decade, AYUSH courses have evolved as legitimate career options for candidates who don’t look to pursue MBBS as their degree of choice.

After reading this Hello Mentor Guide to AYUSH, the reader will:

  • Understand more about AYUSH domains, degrees, and courses available
  • Make an informed choice based on the present fields
  • Eligibility criteria for AYUSH fields
  • Application Processes for said domains
  • Counseling and admission processes for these courses
  • Sectors of employment for graduates

A Brief History of AYUSH

The vision aims to revive the profound knowledge of ancient healthcare medical systems to ensure the propagation of AYUSH systems.

AYUSH systems of medicine include Indian medical systems and Homeopathy. Documented history dates Ayurvedic practices to more than 5000 years. Homeopathy has been a staple practice in India for more than a century. Today, the AYUSH industry is estimated at INR 1,37,800 crores, making it a prominent sector within modern healthcare, having grown by a factor of 6 within a decade.

These healthcare systems, combined with - Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, and Siddha, form the bedrock for AYUSH. Medical Mentor, with our extensive experience, allows aspirants to choose from the various AYUSH courses such as:

  • BAMS – Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
  • BHMS- Bachelor of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery
  • BNYS – Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences
  • BUMS- Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery
  • BSMS- Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery

AYUSH Degrees and Courses

Almost all AYUSH Undergraduate courses are 5.5 years long. The degree programs contain 4.5 years of academic sessions. The three 1.5-year-long professional years combine to make up the academic session. Students are required to complete a one-year internship for degree completion.

Many aspirants view MBBS as the only entry to medical sciences. However, due to the limited number of offered seats, not all can realize their dream of pursuing an MBBS degree.
