ESIC Medical Colleges: Pre Admission Notice for IP Ward Quota

This article gives an insight of the recently update released on ESIC (UG) Pre-Admission Notice For IP Ward

The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has established 11 medical education institutes with affiliated hospitals. As of 2024, there are a total of 1305 MBBS seats across these 11 ESIC colleges nationwide. ESIC inaugurated its first medical college in Bangalore in 2012, although postgraduate courses have been available since 2009.

MBBS Seat Matrices in ESIC Medical Colleges

There are 1305 MBBS seats distributed across all 11 ESIC medical institutes. The seat matrix of each institute is a crucial determinant for seat allocation, which is conducted under reservation criteria and various categories. Ensuring an equitable distribution of seats is essential to fulfilling the objectives behind the establishment of ESIC medical colleges.

ESIC (Employees' State Insurance Corporation) seats are based on different quotas. Of 1305 seats, 47.9% (625 seats) are allocated to the State Quota. ESI Insured Persons receive 35.7% (466 seats) of the seats, while the All India Quota (AIQ) accounts for 16.4% (214 seats).

Seat Reservation at ESIC Medical Colleges

1. All India Quota: The 'All India Quota' accounts for 15% of the total seats in each Employee State Insurance Corporation Medical Institution. The following flowchart illustrates the category-wise seat reservations under the All India Quota as per the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) guidelines.

2. State Allotment Quota: Based on the location of the ESIC Medical Education Institution, a 'State Government Quota' will be applied following the policies of the respective states applicable to unaided non-minority institutions. State counselling authorities will manage the allocation of 65% of the total MBBS seats.

3. Insured Person Quota: The remaining 20% of seat allotments, after the allocation of the All India Quota (15%) and State Quota (65%), will fall under the Insured Person Quota. This provision is exclusively for the wards or dependents of workers covered under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme.

Allotments under the "Ward of Insured Persons" (IPs) category are conducted on an All-India basis. Seats are filled according to a merit-cum-preference scheme. Applicants must submit an IP ward card to validate and authenticate their candidature.
