Hello Mentor’s Guide to KEA Karnataka Counselling
NEET UG
A Hello Mentor Overview of KEA Karnataka Counselling
The Karnataka Medical and Dental Counselling and AYUSH courses are crucial to your educational journey. Conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), a centralised counselling committee established in 1996, this process is the key to securing your place in the esteemed medical and dental institutions of Karnataka.
The counselling process is a mix of online and offline methods. The procedures and notifications are posted on KEA's official website, and the offline process is at the KEA establishment in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. Karnataka has 68 Medical Colleges and 45 Dental Colleges, of which 62 Medical Colleges and 38 Dental Colleges participate in KEA Karnataka Counselling.
This Hello Mentor Guide will help you understand the competition in Karnataka, and the following topics shall be covered in this article:
The Medical Colleges of Karnataka offer different types of seats. Here is a detailed distribution of seats available for students participating in KEA Counselling.
Every state has a different seat distribution across categories and minorities to maintain a balance between meritorious allotments and promoting backward classes or minority communities. Here is how the balance is maintained in Karnataka:
Note: 70% of seats are reserved horizontally for the colleges in the zones of the HK region.
KEA conducts counselling for 100% of seats in private colleges concerning guidelines and orders from the MCC and State DME. In Karnataka, Private colleges are divided into three types: Non-Minority colleges, State Universities, and Minority Colleges. The seat distribution in Private Colleges is as follows:

KEA conducts a centralised counselling process online and offline. The registration, document verification, and seat allotment are conducted online. Per the government's directions, KEA invites candidates to register online.
Then, it ascertains their eligibility online through document verification before allotting seats to candidates for admission to medical and dental courses. As per the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Dental Council of India (DCI), there are a total of 62 Medical Colleges (Government, Private, and Deemed Medical Colleges) and 38 Dental Colleges offering around 8,522 MBBS and 2,709 BDS seats that shall participate in the State Counselling process. The detailed procedure for KEA counselling is explained below:
Qualified NEET-UG candidates who desire to get admission under the Karnataka state quota must register online on the official website of KEA and pay the requisite registration fee as per the schedule released by KEA.
The procedure for online registration usually begins with the release of the KEA counselling notification, which is tentatively set to start by July 6th, 2024. Only candidates who register themselves online can participate in the further document verification process.
After completing the payment, an application must be filled out with all the requested details. This includes personal information like Name, caste, etc., and details like a scorecard, Application Number, Roll Number, etc.
Documents are verified to determine candidates' eligibility. Only after the documents are verified and found to be in order per the eligibility criteria will the candidates be given a verification acknowledgement slip containing the User ID and Secret Key. The User ID and Secret Key will be essential for candidates to access options and proceed further in counselling.
Note: The document verification for 2024 is going to be held ONLINE.
Eligible candidates can log in to the 'Entry of Options' online portal with the User ID and Secret Key provided at the end of the successful completion of the document verification process. Candidates should remember the following points while entering their options:
The allotment of seats will be conducted in two rounds:
Note: If any seats remain vacant after the second round, a mop-up round may be conducted ONLINE for all seat categories. Only candidates not allotted seats in the previous two rounds will be eligible to participate.
