NEET PG 2025 Cut Off Reduced: Revised Scores, Seat Allotment & Impact

NEET PG 2025 Cut Off Reduced: Revised Scores, Seat Allotment & Impact

The academic year 2025-26 saw a shocking reduction in the qualifying NEET PG cut offs, allowing candidates with scores as low as 4 to secure seats at top-notch colleges across India. Such instances of lowering the NEET PG 2025 cut offs would only deteriorate the quality and standards of medical education in the country.

The standard minimum qualifying percentiles and NEET PG 2025 cut offs are vital for candidates to determine their eligibility for the MBBS course. The lowering of the qualifying NEET PG 2025 cut offs to -40 and the qualifying percentile to 0 only makes it worse for the medical ecosystem in India. Furthermore, the reduction of the qualifying percentile to 0 and NEET scores to -40 only raises questions about the existence of the NEET PG exam.

Overview of NEET PG 2025 Counselling

The three rounds of NEET PG 2025 counselling, which is the gateway for admissions of eligible candidates to medical colleges across India, are officially over. Candidates could participate in the NEET PG 2025 counselling process by registering themselves and filling out the online options. They were then allotted seats according to their NEET PG AIR, online option entry, and category to medical colleges across the country. Once a seat was allotted, candidates could go to their respective colleges and confirm their allotted seats after document verification and payment of fees.

Reduction of the NEET PG 2025 Cut Off Scores

The NEET PG 2025 cut off scores were reduced by the counselling authority owing to the higher number of vacant seats. The NEET PG cut offs were reduced to such an extent that even candidates with 0 percentile and -40 marks could participate in the counselling process and get a chance of pursuing medical education. Here’s a look at the revised NEET PG 2025 cut off scores posted by the authority for round 3 counselling:

The table above shows the minimum qualifying NEET PG 2025 cut off and percentile and the revised cut offs and percentiles for candidates across different categories. As per the revised NEET PG 2025 cut offs by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), candidates under the SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD of SC/ST/OBC) with 0th percentile and -40 marks in the NEET PG 2025 exam could participate in round 3 NEET PG counselling 2025. This further gave them a chance to secure seats in prestigious medical colleges across the country.

Seats Allotted with Reduction of the NEET PG 2025 Cut Off

The revision of the NEET PG 2025 cut offs by the NBEMS gave opportunities to multiple candidates who did not apply earlier due to low scores to register and apply for the round 3 NEET PG counselling 2025. The NEET PG 2025 counselling round 3 results showed that candidates with single and double digits were allotted seats in top institutions.

For instance, a candidate with a NEET PG 2025 score of 4 out of 800 was allotted a seat for MS Orthopaedics in a Government Institute in Rohtak. Another candidate with a NEET PG 2025 score of 44 had obtained a seat for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a prestigious medical college in Delhi. A candidate with 47 NEET PG 2025 marks was allotted a seat for General Surgery specialization. One of the faculty members in Government Medical College said that such admissions only “signal a serious breakdown in medical education and workforce planning. Orthopaedics has traditionally been among the most demanding surgical specialties. Filling it at near-zero scores is a sign not of weaker students but a system under severe strain.”

The reduction of the qualifying NEET PG 2025 percentiles gave opportunities to many candidates with low scores; however, many doctors warn that such a lowering of the NEET standards only poses serious risks for the patients in the future. In the past, in 2022, the Delhi HC agreed that such lower medical education standards would only ‘wreck havoc on society’. The reduction of the NEET PG 2025 cut offs sharply contrasts with the previous stand by the HC.

A senior health ministry official defended that PG seats were allotted to candidates by strictly adhering to the revised eligibility rules. He assured that competence will be ensured through training and exams, and not cut offs alone. He further stated that colleges are certified by regulators and are responsible for holding off unsuitable candidates from passing the exam. Many faculty members added that the consequences of lowering the NEET PG 2025 scores are visible. Most of the postgraduate students lack the theoretical foundations and clinical skills due to the pressure to only pass the exams and reliance on online learning.

While the authority’s goal to increase opportunities may be beneficial for candidates, the reduction of the qualifying percentiles displays the lowering of the NEET standards. This further weakens the medical infrastructure and threatens patient safety and trust.
