Assam CM discusses pointers to curb malpractices in NEET 2025 exam with NTA

In an official meeting held on April 14th, 2025, the Hon’ble Assam CM and the Directorate General of NTA discussed a few points and initiatives to curb malpractices in NEET 2025 exam.





Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Hon’ble Assam CM, along with his senior officials and the Directorate General of NTA discussed initiatives to curb malpractices in NEET 2025 exam and protect the integrity of NEET.

 

 

NTA’s Changes to the NEET Exam Format 2025

 

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced changes in the exam format, mentioning that the NEET exam 2025 will revert to the Pre-Covid format. Unlike the previous years’ NEET exam, where candidates could choose from 200 questions, the NEET exam 2025 will have a total of 180 Multiple-choice Questions (MCQs). All the MCQs in the NEET 2025 exam must be attempted, and there will not be any optional questions. Candidates must complete the exam in 180 minutes.

Initiatives to Curb Malpractices in NEET 2025 exam by the Assam CM

 

The year 2024 saw a lot of allegations including question paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET exam. There was an abnormal number of candidates securing full marks in NEET exam 2024. Such instances in the NEET exam 2024 have called for strict measures to avoid malpractices in NEET 2025 exam.

 

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Hon’ble Assam CM, chaired a meeting with the Directorate General of NTA. This meeting was held after a careful inquiry by the Assam Police, who suspected that many students from certain private exam centers scored abnormally high marks in the NEET exam. Here are the initiatives discussed by the Assam CM in the meeting to avoid malpractices in NEET 2025 exam and protect the integrity of NEET.

 

 

  • No More Private Exam Centers: The NEET exam 2025 must be held only in government or government aided colleges. Exams must not take place in private colleges.

  • Strict Monitoring of Materials: To avoid malpractices in NEET 2025 exam, the exam material movement, storage, and distribution must be constantly monitored.

  • ID Verification of Candidates: The Aadhaar/ Biometric verification of candidates entering the exam centers is mandatory.

  • CCTV Footage: The CM has advised the installation of CCTVs in and around the exam centers to monitor candidates writing the exam.

  • Detailed SOP: The CM highlighted the need for frisking (body search) as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at all exam centers to avoid malpractices in NEET 2025 exam.

  • DC and SP Visit: Before the commencement of the NEET 2025 exam, the District Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) must visit and inspect the exam centers. The exam centers must be neatly sanitized.

  • Nomination of Senior Civil Service and Police Officers: Senior Civil Service and Police officers must constantly review and monitor the preparation and conduct of the NEET exam.

  • Co-ordination: There must be close coordination among the Assam chief secretary, DGP, and NTA director general for meticulous planning.

  • No Tolerance for malpractices in NEET 2025 exam: The CM emphasized no tolerance for malpractices in NEET 2025 exam and assured strict legal action against anyone trying anything illegal.

 

The meeting stressed the need for adequate measures to curb malpractices in NEET 2025 exam. Strict measures are in place this year to ensure the fair and smooth conduct of the NEET exam.
