The petition for the NEET PG 2025 exam date on August 3rd, 2025 was agreed by the Supreme Court in a hearing held on June 6th, 2025.  UDF’s Petition to NBE for the NEET PG Exam in a Single Shift

The NEET PG 2025 exam was initially scheduled for June 15th, 2025, in two shifts. A petition was filed by the United Doctors Front (UDF) to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) challenging its decision to conduct the NEET PG 2025 exam in two shifts. The UDF had filed a petition to NBE for conducting the NEET PG exam in a single shift.

Conducting the NEET PG 2025 exam in two shifts and applying the normalization procedure without transparency will not only raise questions regarding the difficulty levels in the exam but also affect the basic principles of equality. Candidates are left at a disadvantage when they are in a shift that has a difficult question paper compared to the other shift.

Supreme Court’s Approval of the NEET PG 2025 Exam Date Extension

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) filed a petition to the Supreme Court for the NEET exam 2025 to be conducted on August 3rd, 2025, in a single shift. This is contrary to the earlier plan of conducting the NEET PG 2025 exam on June 15th in two shifts.

According to the Supreme Court hearing on June 6th, 2025, the Justice PK Mishra asked why the NEET PG 2025 exam needed to be conducted with much delay on August 3rd, 2025, instead of conducting it in mid July. ‘This will delay the entire admission process’, he stated. In response to this, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Nataraj stated that multiple high-level meetings were held to come up with a date for the NEET PG 2025 exam. Vital points regarding increase in the number of exam centers and implementation of stringent security measures were also discussed. The number of exam centers must be doubled in states across India. ‘Even a minor lapse could have serious implications’, Natraj said.

Justice PK Mishra stressed on ensuring the integrity and security of the NEET PG 2025 examination process regardless of when it is conducted. The Supreme Court observed that conducting the NEET PG 2025 exam in two shifts may compromise of the principles of equality. The court emphasized that the NEET PG 2025 exam must be conducted uniformly in a single shift for aspirants across the country. This will ensure fairness and transparency for all the candidates. The Supreme Court approved NBE’s proposal and directed it to make logistical arrangements for conducting the NEET PG exam in a single shift on August 3rd, 2025.
