KEAM Kerala Counselling application is now open. The deadline for the application is April 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM. The last date to upload all supporting documents is April 24. The Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) is responsible for conducting entrance exams for professional courses, including Kerala Engineering Architecture and Medical (KEAM).
In 2023, out of 1,37,396 NEET UG candidates registered in Kerala, 1,33,450 appeared for the exam, and 75,362 candidates qualified, which is 43.2% of the total number of medical aspirants who appeared. Candidate registration continued the upward trend in 2024, soaring to 1,44,949, a 5% increase.

Candidates must carefully examine and get accustomed to the various eligibility norms to participate in KEAM Kerala Counselling. Students who satisfy the eligibility conditions as mentioned in the Prospectus must apply through the official website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.
The official body of correspondence will be CEE, which will share all the essential news and notifications. Kerala is an Open State. Students nationwide can fill out the application form to participate in Kerala counselling.
a. Kerala State Domicile or wards of Kerala native parents can apply for 85% of seats in government colleges and 100% in private colleges.
b. Candidates who have undergone qualifying courses in Kerala and meet specific criteria regarding their parents' service or completion of school studies in Kerala can apply for 85% of seats in government colleges under Non-Keralite Category I [NK I].
c. Other state candidates are also eligible to apply for 15% of seats in private colleges under Non-Keralite Category II [NK II]
1. Nationality: Only Indian citizens can apply for admission to MBBS/BDS and other medical courses. Overseas Citizens of India Cardholders will also be treated on par with Indian Citizens. There are no reservations for Persons of Indian Origin and OCI candidates.
2. Keralite: Aspirants originating from Kerala fall under this category. Only Keralite candidates can avail of fee concessions for Communal/Special/Persons with Disabilities reservations. Wards of All India Service (AIS) officers in Kerala cadre belong to this category.
3. Non-Keralite Category I (NK I): Candidates not having a Kerala origin but satisfying one of the following criteria can apply under this category.
4. Non-Keralite Category II (NK II): This category includes candidates not in the Keralite or Non-Keralite I categories. Students in NK II can apply for 15% of private college seats in the state. These candidates are not eligible for medical courses at government colleges.
To be eligible for KEAM Kerala Counselling, candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Board of Higher Secondary Education, Kerala, or equivalent examinations with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology.
They must have passed these subjects individually and in English. It's important to carefully review and understand all the eligibility requirements before applying for counselling.

Note: Some seats are reserved for certain specific categories for various courses in Kerala Counselling. The candidate is required to upload the relevant Certificate/Certificates as proof in the uploading section of the application portal.

NEET UG 2023 saw 20,87,445 candidate registrations globally for admission to 1,08,958 MBBS seats in 703 Medical colleges and 29,088 BDS seats in Dental colleges. 11,45,976 candidates cracked the NEET UG 2023, and 20,38,596 aspirants appeared.

The 32 existing Medical colleges in Kerala currently offer 4505 seats. 12 Government, 1 Deemed, and 19 Private institutes make up for the total college count in the state. Medical seat distribution in Kerala can be understood in two different aspects.
The analysis above explains how many seats each institute type in Kerala offers. Accounting for more than half the seats, 57.7% are Private medical colleges, which consist of 2600 seats in total. The 12 Government colleges in Kerala offer 1755 seats as of 2024. Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, is the only Deemed university in the state. The college has 150 seats, making up 3.3% of the total distribution.
Analyzing the seat distribution breakdown by counselling type provides deeper insights into Kerala's Medical college and admission landscape. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and CEE’s KEAM are the two authorities tasked with successfully conducting the MCC and Kerala Counselling process.
MCC counsels 453 of the present 4505 medical seats in Kerala. These allotments are divided into three main categories: 265 fall under the All India Quota, and 38 seats are reserved for IP Ward Card Holders. All 150 seats of Amrita Medical College also fall under MCC Counselling purview.
KEAM’s Kerala Counselling allots 4052 seats, 1452 of which are Government and 2600 Private. The category-wise breakdown for Government Medical colleges follows the below trends. 50% of Private Medical college seats are reserved for Muslim and Christian minorities.
The NRI and All India Quota each share 15% of reservations. The remaining 20% are Government seats under various reservation norms. 19 Private Medical colleges are divided into 11 Minority and 8 Non-Minority colleges.
Within the 11 Minority colleges, 5 belong to the Muslim community, and 6 are under the Christian community reservations. They are individually listed below:
It is important to note that except for Travancore Medical College, no other Muslim minority institutes offer community reservations for the NRI quota. All the Christian minority colleges offer seats under this category.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) grants permission to establish new medical colleges in India and accepts applications from existing medical colleges to upgrade their current seat intakes.
Total bed count, hospital square footage, and minimum personnel requirements, among other parameters, determine whether the college’s application is meritorious. NMC also has a set of rules and regulations in place for colleges to qualify for seat increments.
SR Medical College and Research Centre, Varkala, Trivandrum, has applied to offer medical courses in 2024. On the other hand. 2 existing medical colleges, Karuna Medical College, Palakkad & KMCT Medical College, Kozhikode, Calicut submitted applications for seat increments.
