One government and three Private colleges comprise the four MBBS colleges in the region. Interested candidates can apply through CENTAC’s official website per the notification release. The qualifying exam to be eligible for CENTAC Counselling is NEET-UG for admissions to medical courses.
Puducherry medical colleges have a total of 830 seats. Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute is the only Government medical college with 180 MBBS seats. The remaining 650 colleges are spread across two minority and one non-minority Private medical colleges.

Puducherry is an Open state, meaning candidates nationwide can apply for CENTAC counselling. An overview of the registration, appearance, and qualification trends informs medical aspirants of the counselling participation landscape. The study above indicates an increase in both appeared and qualified candidates. However, the number of medical aspirants participating in CENTAC counselling saw a minor increase of 17 students.

Counselling-wise MBBS seat Distribution in Puducherry Medical Colleges
Seat distribution and allocation are subject to the quotas and categories present in different states. Within Puducherry medical colleges, the 830 MBBS seats (180 Government and 650 Private) follow these distributions. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) allots 27 seats under the All India Quota (15%).

CENTAC has authority over the counselling of the remaining 803 MBBS seats in Puducherry medical colleges. The seat distribution follows the below pattern:

830 of the total 1,08,988 MBBS seats in India are in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Counselling these seats depends on the conducting authority, type of medical college, and different categories within a state.
This section analyzes Puducherry's present MBBS seat distribution based on quota and categories. The 180 government seats in Indira Gandhi Medical and Research Institute make up 27.1% of all the MBBS seats in the Union Territory. 650 seats in Private colleges account for 78.1% of medical seats in the distribution.
A quota-wise breakdown of the 180 government seats in Puducherry results in the below analysis.
Since CENTAC counsels 85% of MBBS seats in government colleges, a total of 153 seats fall under its purview. This distribution can be further divided into 131 (72.8%) seats in the government and 22 (12.2%) seats in the NRI quota.
The Medical Counselling Committee conducts counselling for the 27 seats under the All India Quota, holding a 15% reservation.
Seat distribution across Private Puducherry medical colleges follows a more refined breakdown as we deal with Linguistic and Religious minorities. We begin with delving into the only Non-Minority Medical Institute in Puducherry, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital. The college offers 250 MBBS seats. 121 seats get allotted under the Management quota.
Note: Although the CENTAC mandate reserves 20% of seats under the Management quota, 121 seats in total get counselled in Puducherry medical colleges.
Although the Government quota accounts for 65% of reservations, it has 91 seats. The remaining 38 seats are reserved under the NRI/OCI quota.
Important: There are two minorities in Puducherry: Telugu (Linguistic), which has 120 seats, and Christian (Religious), which has 75 seats.
Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, a Christian Minority medical college, has an approved intake of 150 seats, 75 (50%) of which are reserved under the Christian Minority quota. 19 MBBS seats belong to the NRI category, while other vertical and Horizontal reservations account for the remaining 56 seats. Sri Venkateshwara Medical College & Research Institute is the other minority college in Puducherry. It is indexed as a Telugu Minority college and has 120 (50%) seat reservations under it. NRI quota accounts for 38 seats in total. Like PIMS, the remainder of seat allocation occurs according to vertical and horizontal reservations. The tables below elaborate on the same.
