The NEET exam is a highly competitive entrance exam for students seeking admission into medical and dental colleges in India. Many students take this exam every year to secure a seat in one of the top institutions across the country. In the academic year 2024 & 2023, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) witnessed a significant increase in the number of medical students taking the exam, driven by several competitive factors.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an autonomous, and self-sufficient organization that conducts entrance examinations for admission to higher educational institutions. Approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE), it maintains international standards to assess candidate competency for admissions to premier education institutions. NTA researches institutional, professional, and testing systems to identify gaps in different knowledge avenues and bridge the gaps.
The main functionalities of NTA are:
1. Identifying institutions with satisfactory infrastructure that would facilitate the conduction of online examinations.
2. Create subject-wise question banks incorporating modern techniques.
3. Establishment of a strong R&D culture and a pool of experts in different testing aspects.
4. Help individual institutions in testing fields and provide training services.
5. Form a state-of-the-art testing culture through domestic and international expertise.
6. Undertake examinations entrusted to the agency by Government Ministries/Departments.
Based on the NEET result statistics, around 20.38 lakh students took the NEET 2023 examination, with 11.8 lakh female candidates registering, outnumbering male candidates by 2.8 lakh. Maharashtra had the highest number of NEET registrations for 2023, followed by Uttar Pradesh.
