AFMC, Pune started its graduate wing for MBBS on August 4, 1962, with the aim of inducting medical graduates into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).

 

The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, is a government medical college established in 1948. It is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

 

AFMC, Pune started its graduate wing for MBBS on August 4, 1962, with the aim of inducting medical graduates into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Affiliated to Maharashtra Industry of Health Sciences, Nashik, the Armed Forces Medical College is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS at AFMC, Pune

 

 

Candidates fulfilling the following eligibility requirements can seek admission to the MBBS. course in AFMC.

 

General Qualifications:

 

  • Candidates should be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals of Indian origin can be granted admission only upon acquiring Indian Citizenship. The eligibility certificate concerns the person to whom the Ministry of Home Affairs presents it (not applicable to the 5 government-sponsored Candidates from friendly foreign countries).

 

  • Candidates should be unmarried and can’t enter a marital union during the course duration.

 

  • Should fulfil the prescribed medical standards to be deemed fit by the Government of India and the Ministry of Defense (Read further in Medical Eligibility Criteria for more details)

 

  • The student should be 17 years old at the time of application. Or they should attain that age on or before December 31 of the application year. Candidates can’t be more than 24 years of age - and must not be born before January 1st, 2000, and not later than December 31, 2006.

 

Academic Qualifications:

 

  • Candidates must clear one of the below-mentioned qualifying exams on their first attempt. Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are the mandatory subjects where candidates are required to secure at least 60% of the aggregate marks in the three subjects when taken together. Scoring at least 50% marks in English and science subjects is mandatory. The list of qualifying examinations is as follows -

 

  • The Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination in Science of a statutory Indian University/Board or other recognized examination body with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology shall include practical tests in all these science subjects.

 

  • The pre-professional/pre-medical examination for English, physics, chemistry, and biology (after passing either the Higher Secondary School examination or pre-university or equivalent examination) shall include practical tests in these science subjects.

 

  • 1st year of the three-year Degree course at a recognized University with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, including practical tests in Science subjects, provided the examination is a University Examination.  

 

  • Senior Secondary of a statutory Examination Board of Indian School Certificate examination of 12 years of study, last two years comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a higher level. 

 

  • Higher Secondary School Certificate examination of Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education with English at a higher level, any Modern Indian or foreign or classical Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, or any other elective subject.

 

  • Any other examination in scope and standard found to be equivalent to the Higher Secondary Science/Pre-Professional/Pre-medical Examination of Indian University/ Board with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, including practical tests in each of these Science subjects.

 

  • B.Sc. Examination of a recognized Indian University provided that they have passed the B.Sc. Examination in at least two subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, and they have passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. 

 

  • Candidates who have appeared or will appear in the qualifying examination may also apply. If selected, however, admission will be subject to passing and meeting the eligibility criteria as per Paras 6 and 7 above.

 

  • Regarding the requirement of Mathematics, any candidate who passes the Higher Secondary, Senior Cambridge, or Indian School Certificate Examination with no offering of Mathematics in the final year is eligible if they studied Mathematics up to the pre-final year stage (X Class) and passed an examination in the subject, provided it was at least of the Tenth standard.

 

At the time of the interview, a signed copy validating the same by the candidate’s school Principal must be produced. A candidate who had not taken Mathematics at the Tenth or an equivalent examination but had subsequently passed Mathematics as an additional subject in the I.Sc./B.Sc. Examination is also eligible.

AFMC, Pune: MBBS Seat Matrix 

 

 

 

One hundred forty-five medical cadets (115 boys & 30 girls) secured admission in 2023. In addition to the above 145 seats, the government of India, at its discretion through the Ministry of External Affairs & Ministry of Defence, may sponsor and select five (05) NEET(UG) qualified international students from friendly foreign countries for MBBS training in AFMC, under their aid/collaboration programs. An allotment of up to 10 seats is for candidates from the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) background.

Qualifying Exam to pursue MBBS at AFMC, Pune:

 

 

Candidates wanting to secure admission for MBBS at AFMC must mandatorily qualify the NEET UG examination conducted by The National Testing Agency (NTA). Upon the notification's release, students eligible for the MBBS course at AFMC must register and apply at the official DGHS website. 

 

Further details are available on MCC’s official website. Upon completion of the registration deadline, the DGHS provides a candidate list of applicants for AFMC, Pune. It consists of the shortlisted students for screening, mentioning their NEET roll numbers. Around 1880 aspirants (1490 boys and 390 girls) are shortlisted annually. The exact screening schedule at AFMC, Pune, containing the shortlisted candidates’ details, is available on the websites www.afmcdg1d.gov.in and www.afmc.nic.in.

 

Screening Test:

The screening test comprises a Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR), a Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), an Interview, and a Medical Examination at AFMC, Pune. Individual particulars of the screening tests are as follows:

 

  • Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR): This is a computer-based test (CBT) containing 40 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), awarding two marks per question, resulting in a maximum of 80. Every incorrect answer leads to a half-mark deduction. The time limit for ToELR is 30 minutes. The final written exam score is a combined total of the candidate’s NEET and ToELR scores.

 

  • A 50-mark interview follows the ToELR. The subjects of questions include the candidate’s core subject of study, their general awareness and knowledge, personality, hobbies, and personality by the judging panel. Candidates with an NCC/Sports background and pupils of serving/veterans/killed in action Officers/ORs/JCOs will receive due weightage. 

 

The written examination score, interview marks, and ToELR combined will form a final score that will be the basis of the final merit. The Psychological Assessment Test won’t affect the final merit score because it is a qualifying exam. Medical Examination:

 

Every candidate is subject to a medical examination per the standard stated requirements of the Armed Forces. A Board of Officers at AFMC, Pune, carries the medical examination for shortlisted candidates before securing admission to the institute. Candidates are deemed fit or unfit based on the medical examination results. The following guidelines are for guidance to students. They are not absolute and are subject to revision as per departmental instructions. The guidelines are:

 

  • Candidates must be free from physical deformities and mal-developments. There must not be scoliosis, spina bifida, or other skeletal deformities.
  • There must not be any speech impediment.
  • No sign of functional/organic diseases of the heart or blood vessels.
  • There is no evidence of active Pulmonary Tuberculosis or chronic lung diseases. 
  • There is no evidence of digestive system diseases liver or spleen abnormalities.
  • No inguinal hernia or a tendency to it.
  • No kidney disease or skin disease.
  • No active, latent, or congenital STD or HIV infection.
  • No squint eye or any prevailing condition of the eye or eyelids
  • No active trachoma or related complications.

 

Height and Weight Requirements:

 

Male Cadets: The minimum height for males to enter AFMC is 157 cm. The same for Hills and North Eastern States candidates is 152 cm. Candidates who are not yet 18 years of age will get a growth allowance of 2 cm. 

 

Female Cadets: The minimum height for females to enter AFMC is 147 cm. Candidates not 18 years of age will get a growth allowance of 2 cm. 

 

Weight standards must correspond to the criteria mentioned on the official website. 

 

Important Documents when Reporting:

Candidates who are a part of the final merit list as published on the official website need to produce their original NEET UG admit cards mentioning their roll number and original mark sheets of the qualifying examination. Some essential documents required at the time of admission are as follows:

 

  • Entrance Exam Admit Card
  • Entrance Exam Scorecard/Rank Letter
  • Provisional Allotment Letter
  • ID Proof (Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/Driving License/Passport)
  • Class X and XII Marksheets and Certificates
