AFMC, Pune started its graduate wing for MBBS on August 4, 1962, with the aim of inducting medical graduates into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).
The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, is a government medical college established in 1948. It is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
AFMC, Pune started its graduate wing for MBBS on August 4, 1962, with the aim of inducting medical graduates into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Affiliated to Maharashtra Industry of Health Sciences, Nashik, the Armed Forces Medical College is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
As of 2024, AFMC, Pune, offers 10 medical courses across many graduate and post-graduate degrees. The courses provided include MBBS., B.Sc., M.D., M.Sc., M.H.A., M.S., P.G.D., D.M., M.Ch., and Ph.D..

Pursuing an MBBS. course at AFMC, Pune, requires candidates to complete 4 ½ years of academic coursework and a mandatory year-long rotating internship training. Candidates fulfilling the following eligibility requirements can seek admission to the MBBS. course in AFMC.
At the time of the interview, a signed copy validating the same by the candidate’s school Principal must be produced. A candidate who had not taken Mathematics at the Tenth or an equivalent examination but had subsequently passed Mathematics as an additional subject in the I.Sc./B.Sc. Examination is also eligible.

One hundred forty-five medical cadets (115 boys & 30 girls) secured admission in 2023. In addition to the above 145 seats, the government of India, at its discretion through the Ministry of External Affairs & Ministry of Defence, may sponsor and select five (05) NEET(UG) qualified international students from friendly foreign countries for MBBS training in AFMC, under their aid/collaboration programs. An allotment of up to 10 seats is for candidates from the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) background.

Qualifying Exam to pursue MBBS at AFMC, Pune:
Candidates wanting to secure admission for MBBS at AFMC must mandatorily qualify the NEET UG examination conducted by The National Testing Agency (NTA). Upon the notification's release, students eligible for the MBBS course at AFMC must register and apply at the official DGHS website.
Further details are available on MCC’s official website. Upon completion of the registration deadline, the DGHS provides a candidate list of applicants for AFMC, Pune. It consists of the shortlisted students for screening, mentioning their NEET roll numbers. Around 1880 aspirants (1490 boys and 390 girls) are shortlisted annually. The screening test comprises a Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR), a Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), an Interview, and a Medical Examination at AFMC, Pune. Individual particulars of the screening tests are as follows:
The written examination score, interview marks, and ToELR combined will form a final score that will be the basis of the final merit. The Psychological Assessment Test won’t affect the final merit score because it is a qualifying exam. Every candidate is subject to a medical examination per the standard stated requirements of the Armed Forces. A Board of Officers at AFMC, Pune, carries the medical examination for shortlisted candidates before securing admission to the institute. Candidates are deemed fit or unfit based on the medical examination results. The following guidelines are for guidance to students. Height and Weight Requirements:
Male Cadets: The minimum height for males to enter AFMC is 157 cm. The same for Hills and North Eastern States candidates is 152 cm. Candidates who are not yet 18 years of age will get a growth allowance of 2 cm.
Female Cadets: The minimum height for females to enter AFMC is 147 cm. Candidates not 18 years of age will get a growth allowance of 2 cm.
