The retest was conducted following a Supreme Court order granting these students grace marks. The NTA facilitated the retest across seven centres in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Meghalaya, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

CBI Investigation into NEET UG 2024 Irregularities

On the same day as the retest, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lodged a First Information Report (FIR) addressing alleged irregularities in the NEET UG exam held on May 5. This action follows a complaint from the Education Ministry amidst ongoing protests and legal actions from students demanding an inquiry into NEET UG paper leak allegations.

The complaint highlighted "certain isolated incidents" of malpractice across several states. In response, the CBI has prioritized the case and dispatched special teams to Godhra and Patna, where police have already filed cases regarding  NEET UG question paper leaks. The CBI will now take over NEET UG investigations in Gujarat and Bihar.

Disciplinary Actions and Further Investigation on NEET UG 2024

The NTA reported that 63 candidates nationwide have been debarred from the  NEET UG exam due to malpractice, with notable numbers from Bihar (17) and Godhra (30). The investigation will also scrutinize the officials' role in the exam's administration and any broader conspiracies.

Supreme Court Requests NTA’s Response

The Supreme Court has requested responses from the Centre, the NTA, and other parties concerning various NEET UG-related petitions. These NEET UG petitions include calls to cancel the NEET UG 2024 exam and demands for a court-monitored investigation. The Supreme Court has also paused proceedings on similar  NEET UG petitions in multiple high courts.

A high-level NEET UG committee comprising seven experts has been formed to recommend:

  • Reforms in the  NEET UG examination process.
  • Improvements in data security protocols.
  • Changes to the structure and functioning of the NTA.

This committee aims to enhance the integrity and efficiency of the NEET UG examination system, ensuring fairness and security in future assessments.

This ongoing situation at NEET UG highlights the challenges and scrutiny surrounding one of India's most critical medical entrance examinations. Further NEET UG updates will follow as the investigation progresses and the judicial review continues.
