Addition of 1513 New UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 Likely: DME Karnataka

The Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka, has announced the potential addition of 1513 new UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 across its government medical colleges. Karnataka’s proposal outlines a substantial increase: 900 new MBBS seats and 613 postgraduate (PG) seats across its existing government medical institutions.

The Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka, has announced the potential addition of 1513 new UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 across its government medical colleges. This initiative is in direct response to the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare’s plan to expand medical education infrastructure nationwide. As part of the central government’s larger goal of adding 75,000 new medical seats in the coming 5 years, Karnataka’s proposal outlines a substantial increase: 900 new MBBS seats and 613 postgraduate (PG) seats across its existing government medical institutions.

Why 1513 New UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 Matter

The expansion of 1513 New UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 is critical in addressing India’s persistent shortage of qualified doctors. This step not only strengthens Karnataka’s medical education system but also supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India, as announced on August 15, 2024. The government's goal of creating 75,000 additional medical seats in the next 5 years aims to ensure the availability of healthcare professionals in both urban and rural India.

The Local Inspection Committee (LIC) had put the recommendation of adding 1513 new UG and PG medical seats in 2025 in Karnataka before the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), which approved the proposal. This now leaves only the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) final review and approval of adding 1513 new UG and PG medical seats in 2025.

The strategic enhancement of 1513 New UG and PG Medical Seats in 2025 will be primarily based on utilizing existing infrastructure, making the expansion cost-effective and efficient.
