The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has decided to bar admitted IIT and NIT candidates from taking part in KCET counselling. This order comes as a measure to prevent seat blocking and give opportunities to other candidates. This initiative was taken by the KEA to avoid seat wastage. The authority aims to ensure that candidates have fair opportunities during admissions through KEA KCET Counselling 2025.

The decision to bar admitted IIT and NIT candidates from taking part in KCET counselling 2025 comes after the reports of misuse of student data during the counselling process. Many students complained that their login credentials were used without their knowledge to block seats. Candidates who were already admitted in renowned institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) had applied for admissions through KEA KCET Counselling 2024.

 

 

Seat Blocking by IIT and NIT Candidates in KCET Counselling 2024

 

According to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), 53 candidates had reported that they did proceed with option entry in KCET counselling 2024; however, they were allotted seats. This raised concerns among candidates regarding the misuse of data and personal information.

Upon investigation, the counselling authority noticed that many candidates, including 5 IIT and NIT candidates, had participated in KCET counselling 2024 to block seats. The investigation also revealed that over 2,000 IP addresses were misused to block seats. The seats were blocked by candidates who were already admitted in reputed institutes. Once the seats in KCET counselling 2024 were blocked, they were not available to other eligible candidates, denying them opportunities. Most of these IIT and NIT candidates who illegally block seats either do not join the allotted college or drop out, leading to wastage of seats.

Steps to Counter Seat Blockage by IIT and NIT Candidates

 

The counselling authority of Karnataka is taking a few initiatives to counter seat blockage by IIT and NIT Candidates and give fair opportunities to all the candidates during admissions through KEA KCET Counselling 2025. Here are the steps taken by KEA to avoid seat blockage:

• Details of Admitted IIT and NIT Candidates: Prasanna, the Executive Director of KEA, has requested all the central agencies to share details of students who have already joined IITs and NITs. These IIT and NIT candidates will not be eligible for participation in KCET counselling.
  
  
• Verification of Records: JEE counselling is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and KCET counselling is conducted by KEA. While KEA has all the details of candidates joining medical colleges, it has no information of candidates joining engineering colleges. KEA has requested NTA to share the updated data of candidates joining engineering colleges through JEE. JEE counselling is expected to occur from June to July 2025, while KCET may place till September or October. This gives KEA adequate time to check and verify the details and stop ineligible candidates from participating in KCET.
  
  
  

Verification Methods for Admissions Through KEA KCET Counselling 2025

Here are additional verification methods adopted for admissions through KEA KCET Counselling 2025:

• Facial Tagging: Candidates must collect a confirmation slip from KEA, visit the allotted college physically, show their face, and share their OTP to receive the admission ticket from the Principal.
  
  
• Payment of Fees: Candidates must pay fees to enter the options. This way the counselling authority can track ineligible candidates by checking the banking records, avoiding the blockage of seats.
  
  
• Dedicated Team: The counselling authority of Karnataka is planning to set up a dedicated team to constantly monitor such IIT and NIT candidates involved in seat blocking.

 

All these initiatives by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) aim to curb fraudulence in KCET counselling 2025. Candidates who are allotted seats in engineering colleges through JEE will not be able to participate in KCET counselling 2025, giving other eligible candidates opportunities and avoiding seat wastage. These initiatives further improve transparency and build trust among students and parents.
