One of Banaras Hindu University's six institutes, the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), was established in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh 1960. The three leading colleges of IMS BHU—the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dental Sciences, and the Faculty of Ayurveda—offer medical courses.
The institute also houses a nursing college, one of the nation's best and most distinguished nursing schools.
