Overview of the NEET UG 2026 Exam

The NEET UG 2026 exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 3rd, 2026. The exam will be conducted offline (pen-and-paper mode) at 552 designated exam cities across India and 14 cities outside the country. The duration of the NEET UG 2026 exam is 3 hours, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Candidates must be aware of the number of questions and the marking system. Candidates must attempt a total of 180 questions: 90 from Biology (45 Botany and 45 Zoology), 45 from Physics, and 45 from Chemistry. The maximum obtainable marks from the NEET UG 2026 exam are 720. +4 marks will be granted for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong answer. No marks will be granted or reduced for unattempted questions.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), the responsible exam body for NEET, released an advisory on April 23rd, 2026, on its official X handle. The NTA-released advisory consists of a list of prohibited items for the NEET UG 2026 exam. The list of prohibited items for NEET 2026 exam on the official post is presented as small icons. Here is the list of prohibited items for NEET 2026 exam:

 

• Any textual material (printed or written), bits of paper, pencil box, plastic pouch, calculator, pen, scale, writing pad, pendrive, eraser, log table, electronic pen, scanner, etc.
  
  
• Communication devices such as mobile phone, Bluetooth or wired earphones, microphone, pager, health band, etc.
  
  
• Any watch or wristwatch, bracelet, camera, etc.
  
  
• Items like wallets, goggles, handbags, belts, caps, etc.
  
  
• Ornaments or metallic items
  
  
• Food items opened or packed, water bottle, etc.
  
  
• Any other item which could be used for unfair means

 

Note: If there are unavoidable circumstances or any medical emergencies, candidates must reach out to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and gain approval before the admit cards are released. The NTA has further advised that candidates must stay alert and follow all exam guidelines carefully. Candidates must not carry prohibited items to the exam centre under any circumstances. They are further advised to ensure fair practices in the exam to avoid disqualification.

What Candidates Must/Can Carry to the NEET Exam Hall?

While masks & sanitizers and water bottle are optional, it is mandatory for candidates to carry all other items to the NEET exam hall. Any misses in any of the above-mentioned items/documents will result in candidates not being allowed in to the NEET exam hall.
