MP High Court Orders NEET 2025 Re-exam for 75 Students in Indore and Ujjain

Here is a gist of the court proceedings on June 23rd, 2025, regarding NEET 2025 re-exam for 75 students in Indore and Ujjain:

  • MP High Court Orders NEET 2025 Re-exam: The NEET 2025 re-exam for 75 students in Indore and Ujjain was ordered by the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court. They directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct NEET 2025 re-exam for 75 students in Indore and Ujjain who faced disruptions due to power outages during the exam on May 4th, 2025.

  • Power Outages in Indore and Ujjain: There were severe thunderstorms on May 4th, 2025, in Indore and Ujjain, which led to power failures in the NEET exam centers in these areas. This, in turn, affected the candidates from undertaking the NEET 2025 exams effectively. Candidates were forced to attempt the NEET 2025 exam in dark or poorly lit rooms, with no backup power for over 2 hours. They were also not provided with extra time to complete the exam. Some of the affected centers mentioned in the petitions include ILVA Higher Secondary School, Shri Vaishnav Academy, and Madhav College.

  • Right to Equality: During the court proceedings, the petitioners emphasized ‘Article 14’, which speaks about the right to equality. While some students sitting in the same exam centers got natural lighting, multiple candidates were at a disadvantage as they sat at places with insufficient lighting. Moreover, the candidates affected by the power outage were not given additional time to complete the NEET 2025 exam.

  • Court Proceedings: The legal team representing the petitioners stated that if the petition is not addressed, candidates would suffer extreme prejudice. Additionally, the entire year’s hard work for the preparation of the NEET exam would be wasted, without any fault on the petitioner’s part. In support of the appeal, the counsel also mentioned Dainik Bhaskar, a daily newspaper, which published a detailed news regarding the outage of power due to the unforeseen weather conditions.

The exam center scene was recreated in the court, with all the windows being closed. It was noted that the lighting conditions were very poor. Such conditions in an actual exam hall might have put candidates in a disadvantageous position. In response to the counsel of the petitioners, the MP high court ordered NTA to conduct NEET 2025 re-exam for 75 students in Indore and Ujjain.
