The NEET UG 2024 row has taken a significant turn as the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the NTA, responding to their plea to transfer the NEET UG 2024 cases from various High Courts to the top court.
On Monday, the Supreme Court issued notice on petitions filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) seeking the transfer of pending cases before the Rajasthan High Court related to the NEET UG 2024 exam to the top court.
This article covers the latest information on the latest NEET UG 2024 updates:
The controversy began with the NEET UG 2024 examination held on May 5. 13,16,268 qualified students are now competing for 1,08,988 MBBS seats in medical colleges nationwide. The results, announced on June 4, were followed by numerous complaints of paper leaks and allegations of widespread malpractice.
The NEET UG 2024 examination has come under intense scrutiny due to alleged paper leaks, resulting in several arrests and a thorough investigation by the CBI. The Supreme Court has postponed the case hearing until July 18, further adding the stress among aspiring students.
The petitioners have raised significant concerns about the fairness and transparency of the NEET UG 2024 examination. They argue that the awarding of over 1,500 students with grace marks has significantly distorted the overall rankings. This has led to widespread discontent among students and parents, who believe that the irregularities and paper leaks have compromised the integrity of the NEET UG 2024 examination.

Previously, the bench had on July 11 adjourned the hearing on a clutch of other petitions seeking cancellation, re-test, and probe into alleged malpractices in the conduct of NEET UG 2024 until July 18 as some parties did not receive the responses of the Centre and the NTA.
The bench also mentioned receiving a progress report from the CBI regarding the investigation into alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 exam administration.
In an additional affidavit submitted to the apex court on July 10, the Center stated that IIT Madras conducted data analysis of the results of NEET UG 2024, revealing no indication of "mass malpractice" or a specific group of candidates benefitting from it and achieving unusually high scores.
The government's claim was noteworthy in light of the Supreme Court's comments on July 8 that a re-examination of NEET UG 2024 might be ordered if there were widespread irregularities in conducting the NEET UG 2024 exam on May 5.
The Center's affidavit mentioned that experts from IIT Madras observed that the marks distribution followed the bell-shaped curve typically seen in large-scale exams, indicating no anomalies. A bell curve represents data conforming to a normal mark distribution.
The NTA also submitted a separate supplemental affidavit with similar content, stating that the marks distribution was analyzed at the national, state, and city levels. During the hearing on July 8, the Supreme Court remarked that the integrity of the NEET UG 2024 examination had been “breached.”
Saying that a NEET UG 2024 re-test may be ordered if the entire process was affected, the bench had sought details from the NTA and the CBI, including the timing and manner of the alleged paper leak, besides the number of wrongdoers to understand the extent of irregularities claimed by the petitioners.

As per a PTI report, the Supreme Court issued notices to private parties on a batch of pleas filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Monday. The NTA is seeking to transfer cases pending against it in various high courts concerning the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test–Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 row to the top court to avoid a multiplicity of litigations.
On June 14, the bench issued notices similar to those issued to the private parties based on the NTA's requests.
The NTA submitted several pleas seeking cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 over allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices, which are pending in several high courts.
Advocate Vardhaman Kaushik, appearing for the NTA, urged a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala on Monday to transfer the fresh batch of pleas to the apex court as they pertained to the same issue, as per a PTI report.
The bench responded by saying, "Issue notice and tag," and added that these requests will also be addressed alongside the pending petitions on the NEET UG 2024 issue on July 18.
The NTA requested the bench to halt the ongoing proceedings in various high courts. The CJI mentioned that the high courts should not proceed with the hearing once the Supreme Court has issued notices on transfer petitions.
The bench instructed the NTA counsel to notify the relevant high courts. The top court was hearing as many as five petitions seeking transfer of cases from various high courts to it.
The Supreme Court will hear the NEET UG 2024 case on July 18. Before the Supreme Court, the main issue was whether to order a re-test and to determine if the wrongdoers among the exam-takers could be distinguished from the innocent students.
The court wanted to make decisions to ensure the future of the 23 lakh students who took NEET UG 2024 on May 5.
The NEET UG 2024 exam paper leak concerns must be taken seriously as the legal proceedings continue. We hope that justice will be served and the integrity of the NEET UG 2024 examination will be maintained, providing a fair and transparent process for all aspiring medical students while we await the court's decision on 18 July 2024 in the “NEET UG 2024 paper leak” case.
