The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate NEET UG 2024 has seen unprecedented competition for medical seats in India. 23,33,297 candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2024 exam. An impressive 56.4% of the aspirants, translating to 13,16,268 students, qualified, reflecting the nationwide increase in medical seat competition.

Of all the top scorers in NEET UG 2024, six students have the same sequence in their seat numbers and hail from Haryana. This is indicative of them belonging to the same centre. Concerns were raised after scorecards with marks 718 and 719 circulated over several social media platforms.

Ruiee Kapoor, a parent representative, found NTA's clarification unsatisfactory, as a score of 718 or 719 is technically improbable.
The corresponding ranks at the same scores have gone up four to five times in NEET UG 2024.
The stark shift in rankings further illustrates the intensity of the competition; a score of 500, which fetched an All India Rank (AIR) of 1,09,125 in NEET UG 2023, now only secures an AIR of 2,10,250 in NEET UG 2024.
The 703 medical colleges in India consist of 1,08,988 MBBS seats, while as of 2024, there are 29,088 BDS seats available nationwide.
By issuing a press release on June 6, 2024, NTA shed light on these matters or the questions raised by candidates regarding the NEET UG 2024 result.
The cut-off scores are set each year based on the collective performance of candidates. This year's higher cut-off signifies increased competition and elevated performance standards among the candidates.
