The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the revised merit list for NEET UG 2024 today, July 25, 2024. This follows a directive from the Supreme Court, which mandated the NTA to re-evaluate the results after addressing a controversial physics question that affected the marks and rankings of numerous students. On July 23, 2024, the Supreme Court dismissed petitions seeking the cancellation and re-conduct of the NEET UG 2024 exam, stating that there was no substantial evidence indicating a systemic issue with the exam results. Although the court acknowledged the leak of the question paper in Hazaribagh and Patna, it concluded that these incidents did not compromise the overall integrity of the results.
The court directed the NTA to release a revised merit list based on the recommendations of an expert committee from IIT Delhi. This committee was tasked with resolving the confusion surrounding a contentious physics question that significantly impacted the scores and rankings of many candidates.
The Supreme Court had instructed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to form a panel of three top professors to examine and resolve the disputed physics question. After a thorough review, the committee concluded that option 4 was the correct answer. This decision paved the way for the NTA to recalculate the scores and compile a revised merit list.
The revised merit list has led to a reshuffling of marks and ranks for several candidates. Notably, 44 students who initially achieved a perfect score of 720 had their scores adjusted to 715 due to the correction of the physics question. This adjustment has impacted the rankings of these candidates and potentially others.
