A total of 3 new medical colleges in Karnataka were approved for the academic year 2024-25 by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME). Here are the new medical colleges in Karnataka 2024:

 

  • BGS Medical College & Hospital, Bengaluru North - 150 MBBS seats
  • PES University Institute of Health Sciences & Research Centre, Electronic City - 100 MBBS seats
  • S R Medical College, Bagalkot – 100 MBBS seats

 

These colleges collectively added 350 new MBBS seats to the state's medical seat intake. Two more medical colleges, Ramanagara Institute of Medical Sciences and Kanakapura Institute of Medical Sciences, are set to commence operations in the academic year 2025-26. These colleges will have a seat intake of additional 250 MBBS seats. Overall, there is an expected addition of over 1,850 MBBS seats across new medical colleges in Karnataka 2025. With the addition of new medical colleges in Karnataka and MBBS seats, the state is firmly establishing itself as a leading medical education provider across India.

 

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has approved the addition of over 1,500 to 1,850 new MBBS seats across new and existing medical colleges across Karnataka. A recent approval for the addition 1,500 to 1,850 MBBS seats by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) after recommendations from the Local Inspection Committee (LIC) will further boost the medical education infrastructure across the state.

 

 

Past Trends of New Medical Colleges in Karnataka

 

There has been a consistent expansion in the medical education capacity in Karnataka over the past few years, both in terms of medical seats and colleges. Here are the trends showing the increase in the number of medical seats over the years:

 

  • 2013-14: There were approximately 6,705 MBBS seats across 46 medical colleges for the academic year 2013-14.

  • 2023-24: There were over 68 medical colleges with approximately 11,595 MBBS seats for the academic year 2023-24.

  • 2024-25: There were a total of 12,395 MBBS seats across over 71 medical colleges in the state of Karnataka for the academic year 2024-25.

  • 2025-26: Over 1,850 MBBS seats and a few new medical colleges in Karnataka 2025 are expected to be added for the 2025-26 session.
