The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) has increased the bond penalty for candidates leaving their MBBS seats. The AFMC bond penalty increased to Rs. 69 lakhs. Candidates seeking admission at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, starting from the academic year 2025-26 must sign an agreement. This will be the bond penalty for vacating seats at AFMC. As per the updated policy in the agreement, admitted MBBS candidates at AFMC who vacate seats after 7 days of the admission date must pay the increased bond amount of Rs. 69 lakhs.
At the time of admission at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Parents/ Guardians of candidates must sign the bond agreement of Rs. 69 lakhs. The bond agreement states that candidates withdrawing their seats after a week of admission at AFMC must pay the bond amount of Rs. 69,00,000/-. The AFMC bond penalty increase to Rs. 69 Lakhs aims to bring in the seriousness in the training of the admitted candidates.

The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) will select 150 candidates, including 5 government-sponsored candidates. 115 male and 30 female candidates (145, excluding government-sponsored candidates) will be selected with compulsory service liability in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).
AFMC also announced in its brochure that candidates admitted to the institution must complete the course and serve a mandatory commission service period of 7 years. Candidates passing out of the institution after completing the MBBS course must serve in the armed forces (army, navy, or air force) for 7 years.
Candidates who do not wish for the mandatory commission service after passing the final exam will be granted the No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, they must pay the bond penalty in full to receive the NOC. Candidates can use the NOC to join internship training in any of the approved AFMS internship hospitals.
The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, will select candidates to serve in the armed forces under 2 commission types based on vacancies and merit obtained in the final examination.

As per the information in AFMC’s brochure, a candidate is declared NSL if he/ she contracts a disease or disability over which he/she has no control. In such instances, the medical cadets will not be liable to pay the bond amount. However, they must pay the cost of training, tuition fees, and other required charges for the remaining study period. The cost of training currently is Rs. 28,166 per week. This amount is subject to change in the future.
