Employees State Insurance Corporation Announces 20 New Medical Colleges

Employees State Insurance Corporation Announces 20 New Medical Colleges

The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has announced its plans to add 20 new medical colleges over the next two years.

The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has proposed the introduction of 20 new medical colleges to cater to the medical needs of over 3.72 crore workers and families insured under the ESIC scheme. The addition of these colleges is a significant step contributing to the growth of medical education in India.

Proposal to Add 20 Employees State Insurance Corporation New Medical Colleges

The Union Minister for Labor and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced that 10 new medical colleges will be introduced during the academic year 2025-26. The new medical colleges are expected to be located in Pune (Maharashtra), Manesar (Haryana), Kollam (Kerala), Surat (Gujarat), Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Asansol (West Bengal), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), and Margaon (Goa). The other 10 new medical colleges are expected to be added during the academic year 2026-27.

The number of new Employees State Insurance Corporation medical colleges is expected to go up to 31 in the coming years, with 3 state-run colleges and 28 colleges being directly run by the corporation. The main factors contributing to the expansion in the number of new Employees State Insurance Corporation medical colleges are the inaccessibility and unaffordability of treatment for the middle-class people. The initiative to add new Employees State Insurance Corporation medical colleges will boost the healthcare system by providing cost-effective medical treatment to insured employees.

10 new Employees State Insurance Corporation medical colleges are expected to open during the academic year 2025-26; however, their operation will commence in 2026 as the corporation is yet to get the land and regulatory approvals. Furthermore, constructing the required infrastructure would require more time. Each of these medical institutions is expected to have a total intake of 50 MBBS seats and 200 beds.
