MP High Court Halts NEET 2025 Results Due to Power Failures at Exam Centers

There was a power outage at around 3:30 p.m. in PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 center (NEET Exam center) when the exam was ongoing. There were no backup power systems or generators in the center, causing a significant disruption during the exam. The lighting in the exam center was minimal, making it inconvenient for candidates to write the exam. According to the petition filed in the Indore High Court, the emergency lighting candles were brought to the exam center around 4:30 p.m. This is 30 minutes before the scheduled closing of the NEET 2025 exam time.

There were alleged power failures at exam centers across many states in India. In Tamil Nadu, there were power failures at exam centers due to rain. These power failures at exam centers at the time of the NEET UG 2025 exam have adversely hindered candidates’ from properly attempting the exam. Some of these affected candidates filed a petition for a re-examination or alternative measures to ensure fairness and equity in NEET 2025. As a result, the declaration of the NEET 2025 results was halted.

High Court Hearing Affected by NTA’s Absence

The court order to discuss the matter and take instructions regarding the situation was scheduled for May 13th. However, no representatives from the National Testing Agency (NTA) had appeared for the hearing according to Justice Subodh Abhyankar.

No representatives from the National Testing Agency (NTA) were present for the proceedings on May 13th, 2025. This led the MP High Court to halt the declaration of the NEET 2025 results until the next date of hearing. The next high court hearing to address the issue is set to take place after four weeks. The NTA has not issued any statement officially on the temporary halt of the declaration of the NEET 2025 results.

Impact of the Power Failures at Exam Centers

The power failures across multiple exam centers in various states not only impact the affected candidates but also the 21 lakh candidates who undertook the exam. The NEET 2025 results were expected to be released around June 14th, 2025. However, with the ongoing situation due to power failure at various exam centers and the lack of resolution from the hearing on May 13th, 2025, the NEET 2025 results release date is uncertain. This, like the last year, could result in a delay in the counselling process and commencement of medical education for the 2025-26 batch of candidates.

Possible Additional Impacts due to Disruptions in the NEET Exam 2025

Here are a few possible implications due to disruptions in the NEET exam 2025:

  • Every Mark Counts: NEET is an important and a highly competitive exam. Over 21 lakh candidates participated in the NEET exam 2025 to compete for 1,17,781 MBBS seats in various medical colleges across India. Even the slightest changes in the scores can greatly impact the All India Rank (AIR). Each and every mark counts, and candidates may lose seats at prestigious medical colleges due to the loss of a single mark. Due to unforeseen and unfortunate events as the ongoing power failure issue, many candidates miss out on the opportunity to give their best.

  • Re-examination: If the affected candidates are given an opportunity for re-examination, the other candidates might raise questions. They might question the addition time (weeks or months) given to prepare for the NEET exam 2025. The NEET exam paper 2025 was tough for a majority of the candidates, especially Physics. The candidates who were affected may have an idea of the NEET exam 2025 pattern and prepare better for the subjects they found difficult to attempt. A re-examination might also raise questions about the difficulty of the question paper for the affected candidates.

Both the National Testing Agency (NTA) and High Court must have to take or suggest alternative measures without compromising on the basic principles of equality and fairness for all the candidates.
