NMC Releases New Medical Colleges and Existing MBBS Seat Increase Notice

The National Medical Commission (NMC), through its Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), has released a notice for new medical colleges and existing MBBS seat increase for the 2026-27 academic year. The deadline to apply for new medical colleges and existing MBBS seat increase is up to 28th January, 2026.



 

The notice inviting online applications for establishing new medical colleges and increasing medical seats in existing colleges was released by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on its official website on 22nd December, 2025. Candidates must visit the official website to view the notice regarding online applications for establishing new medical colleges and increasing medical seats in existing colleges.



There were a total of 1,28,975 MBBS seats for the NEET 2025 session, distributed across 820 medical colleges in India. The further addition of new medical colleges and seats will ease the competition and provide opportunities to deserving candidates. Notice for Establishing New Medical Colleges and Increasing Seats

 

The National Medical Commission (NMC), through the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), has released a notice for new medical colleges seeking approval and existing colleges looking to increase their seat capacity. Here are a few important pointers mentioned in the official notice:



  • Only Online Applications: The official notice specifies that only online applications will be considered for the approval of new colleges and the increase of medical seats in existing colleges. The offline applications will not be considered.
  • Application Window: The online application window for new medical colleges and seats opened on 29th December, 2025, and is scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m. on 28th January, 2026. The applications must strictly adhere to the deadline to be considered.
  • Compliance with Regulations: The applicant medical college must strictly comply with relevant regulations, MSR documents, guidelines, relevant orders, notices, and circulars issued by the NMC and other authorities from time to time
  • Seats in New and Existing Medical Colleges: While new medical colleges can have capacities ranging from 50 to 150, the existing medical colleges can have up to 100 additional seats 
  • Fill out the Required Details and upload the Documents: The applicant colleges must fill in the required details and submit the necessary documents specified on the official notice within the deadline



Required Documents for New and Existing Colleges

 

The new colleges and the existing colleges applying to seek approval must fill in the required details and submit the required documents on the portal. All the documents must be uploaded in PDF format after registering using email ID and password. The existing colleges can use the previously used credentials to log in, fill in the details, and upload the required documents. Here are the key documents required for getting a new college approved:



  • Applicant details (name, contact, address)
  • Application category
  • Constitution documents (trust deed, MoA)
  • Management composition with disclosures of other college affiliations
  • Consent of Affiliation (CoA) from a recognized university and Essentiality Certificate (EC) from state/UT authorities, both in prescribed formats per Regulation 9 of 2023 rules, valid on submission day—conditionals or invalids lead to outright rejection
  • Leadership details (Dean/Principal, Medical Superintendent)
  • Financial proofs (three-year audits, solvency certificate, bank authorizations)
  • Land documents (ownership/30-year lease, completion/fire/occupancy certificates)
  • Hospital specifics cover bed strength
  • Occupancy data
  • OPD stats
  • Equipment lists
  • Licenses (blood bank, AERB, pollution)
  • Proximity proof
  • Project costs, financing means, infrastructure capabilities, and undertakings on Rs.100 stamp paper



Here are the crucial documents to be submitted by existing medical colleges looking to increase the seat count:

 

  • Particulars of the Applicant, including Name, Contact Number, Address, and Email ID of the Medical College
  • Category of Application (New College/Increase in the intake of seats)
  • Constitution / Registration / Incorporation documents, including certified copies of Bye Laws / Memorandum and Articles of Association / Trust deed
  • Composition proofs of the Management/ Society/ Trust/ Company of the College and Hospital
  • The individual members of the Trust/Society/Company shall declare if they are part of any other Trust/Society/Company running other Medical Colleges in India, along with the name and address of such Colleges
  • Name of the Affiliating University and Consent of Affiliation (CoA) in the prescribed Performa issued by a recognized University. CoA must be valid at the time of application.
