The MBBS degree, or the "Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery" degree, is an undergraduate-level professional degree program that provides students with a comprehensive education on medicine and surgery. The program is designed to impart students with theoretical and practical knowledge, preparing them to become qualified doctors and surgeons.

Despite its name, the MBBS program is granted as a single degree, despite containing two specializations. The program is five and a half years long, including a mandatory one-year rotational internship program. The course is conducted under a semester system, and students undergo both theoretical and practical classes throughout the nine semesters. These classes are followed by four-year exams, which constitute a significant portion of the final grade.

The MBBS program is divided into three broad phases - pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical. During the pre-clinical phase, students learn about basic medical sciences such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and more. In the para-clinical phase, students learn about subjects such as Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, and Clinical Pathology. In the clinical phase, students are introduced to clinical subjects such as Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.

To supplement the theoretical education, the MBBS program also includes practical training, where students are exposed to different wards and departments of the hospital attached to their respective colleges. This hands-on training helps the students to understand the practical aspects of the medical profession. During the practical classes, students learn about different stages of treatment and standard protocols like disease history, examination, diagnosis, patient management, and more.

Overall, the MBBS program is an in-depth and comprehensive course that prepares students to become qualified doctors and surgeons. The program provides students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of medicine and surgery, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in the medical profession.
