Overview of JEE Main 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the JEE Main 2026 exam in 2 sessions; session 1 in January and session 2 in April. The JEE Main 2026 session 1 was held on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 28th January and session 2 was held on 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th April. The JEE Main 2026 exams were conducted in the CBT (Computer-Based Test). The JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam was conducted in 10 shifts and session 2 in 9 shifts.

 

The JEE Main 2026 exam was conducted in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The JEE Main 2026 session 2 exam was conducted at 584 exam centers in 319 cities, including 15 cities outside India (Manama, Doha City, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait, Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Abu Dhabi, West Java, Washington, Lagos, Munich, and Dammam).

 

A total of 10,34,330 candidates appeared for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Paper 1 out of the 11,10,904 candidates who registered for the exam. The NTA used the percentile system to calculate the scores; if 60,000 candidates appear in a shift, and 54,000 of them scored equal or lower marks when compared with your marks, then your percentile is 90%. Also, since the exam was conducted in multiple shifts, the normalisation technique was used.

As per the official notice released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), a total of 10,34,330 candidates appeared for the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Paper 1 out of the 11,10,904 candidates who registered for the exam. 26 candidates from various states across the country had obtained 100 percentile in the JEE Main 2026 paper 1 exam. 5 candidates from Andhra Pradesh and 5 from Telangana had obtained 100 percentile. 24 of the 26 candidates who obtained 100 percentile were from the General category. The remaining 2 candidates were from General - EWS and Other Backward Classes Non Creamy Layer (OBC - NCL) categories.
