The total number of admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024 was 1,17,947. The vacant MBBS seats in India numbered 34 seats in 2024, which was only 0.02% of the total MBBS seats in the country.




 

The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) is a highly competitive exam for candidates seeking admission to prestigious medical colleges across India. Candidates must have secured the required qualifying NEET percentiles for participating in the NEET counselling process and further getting admission to prestigious medical colleges in India. This article provides an analysis of the admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024, details of the vacant MBBS seats, and other vital information.

 

 

Overview of NEET UG 2024

 

The year 2024 saw a record-breaking number of registrations for the NEET UG exam, with 23,81,833 applications. This was a 14.1% increase in the number of registrations compared to 2023. The vast number of registrations for the NEET UG 2024 exam not only displays the interest of candidates to pursue medical education but also the intensity of the competition.

 

The total number of MBBS seats in India in 2024 was 1,17,981. This figure is only 4.95% of the total number of registered candidates (23,81,833) for the NEET UG 2024 exam. Despite the intense competition, there were 34 vacant MBBS seats in 2024. The total number of admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024 was 1,17,947

State-wise Admitted MBBS Students in NEET 2024

 

 

Initial reports suggested that 82 MBBS seats were vacant out of the total 1,17,981 seats in 2024. However, it was later confirmed that only 34 MBBS seats in India were left vacant for the 2024 session. This means that a total of 1,17,947 candidates were admitted to the MBBS courses in various medical colleges across India in the year 2024. Out of the 34 states and union territories from which candidates participated in NEET 2024, these states had the highest number of MBBS admissions. These 10 states collectively saw a total of 89,254 admissions, which is 75.6% of the total admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024 in India. Around 10.6% (12,473) of the total admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024 belonged to the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). Karnataka closely followed UP with a total of 12,392 admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024, which is 10.5% of the total admitted MBBS candidates in India. Tamil Nadu saw the third highest number of admissions with 12,049 admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024.

Admitted MBBS Students in NEET 2024 in Karnataka: Breakdown

 

 

 

 

The state of Karnataka saw a total of 12,392 admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024. This sets Karnataka as the state with the second highest number of admitted MBBS students in NEET 2024 only after Uttar Pradesh. East West Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Bardhaman, a private institute in West Bengal, had the highest number of vacant MBBS seats in 2024, with 5 seats. This was followed by Jakir Hossain Medical College and Research Institute, Murshidabad in West Bengal and Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College, Gaya in Bihar, with 2 vacant MBBS seats.

 

  • States with the Highest Number of Vacant MBBS Seats in 2024: A total of 9 medical institutes in Bihar had vacant MBBS seats, the highest number of institutes with vacant seats compared to other states. This is followed by West Bengal comprising 4 medical institutes with vacant MBBS seats in 2024.  


  • Institute Type with the Highest Vacant MBBS Seats in 2024: Both government and private institute types in 2024 had 14 vacant MBBS seats each in 2024. The deemed and state private university types each had 3 vacant MBBS seats each in 2024. These figures collectively contribute to 34 vacant MBBS seats in 2024.
