In the latest NEET UG registration statistics for 2024, Uttar Pradesh (UP) continues to lead the pack with a staggering 3.39 lakh registrations, maintaining its stronghold as the state with the most applicants. While still significant in its contribution, Karnataka ranks fifth with 1.54 lakh registrations.

 

However, the state has seen a notable increase from the previous year, with an additional 19,829 applications, indicative of a growing interest in medical education among Karnataka's aspiring students.

According to the NEET UG 2024 registration data, medical aspirants have a dominant applicant pool. The OBC NCL (Other Backward Classes-Non Creamy Layer) category constitutes the largest group, accounting for 43.8% of registrations and 10,43,084 applicants.

 

Following this, the General category secured 27% of registrations, with 6,43,596 candidates expressing interest in medical education. The SC (Scheduled Caste) category comprised 14.8% of registrations, with 3,52,107 candidates. 

 

The Gen-EWS (General-Economically Weaker Section) category is a relatively newer addition to the reservation criteria, but it has notable participation, with 1,88,557 candidates vying for medical seats, which is 7.9% of the total registrations. Additionally, the ST (Scheduled Tribe) category accounts for 6.5% of registrations, with 1,54,489 students stepping forward.

 

 

 

 

After analyzing the category-wise registrations for NEET UG in 2024 compared to 2023, there are notable shifts and trends in aspirants' preferences and participation. The General category, though experiencing more modest growth, still observes an appreciable rise from 6,07,131 to 6,43,596 registrations, reflecting a 6% increase.

 

 

Moreover, the Gen-EWS (General-Economically Weaker Section) category emerges as a notable highlight, with registrations soaring from 1,54,373 to 1,88,557, showcasing a substantial surge of 22%. In parallel, the ST (Scheduled Tribe) category also displays a commendable growth trajectory, with registrations climbing from 1,32,490 to 1,54,489, representing a 17% increase.

This growth pattern continued into 2023, witnessing an increase in registrations across all categories, with 9,02,936 males, 11,84,513 females, and 13 third-gender registrations.
