Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024: Round Wise Process, Eligibility Criteria

The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DME) oversees Tamil Nadu State Counselling, managing 85% of the medical and dental seats in the state. NEET is the required qualifying exam for medical counselling across India.

 

The Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DME), oversees Tamil Nadu State Counselling for 85% of medical and dental seats in the state. NEET UG is the required qualifying exam for medical counselling in India.

 

Recently, In response to student inquiries via phone, email, and personal representations, the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee provided the following clarifications on Tamil Nadu State Counselling:

 

1. Payment of Security Deposit for Management Quota for SC, SCA, ST & SCC Candidates: The security deposit for management quota candidates from SC, SCA, ST, and SCC categories will be waived if their parent's income is less than 2.5 lakhs per annum, with an income certificate required.

 

2. Resignation in Round 2 Beyond the Stipulated Date: Students allotted in Round 2 who do not join the allotted college or resign before the stipulated resignation date will be allowed to exit without forfeiture of fees. 

 

Note: However, if a candidate resigns or discontinues after the stipulated date for resignation in Round 2 or later rounds, they must forfeit the security deposit, tuition fees already paid, and pay the discontinuation fee as per the Government Quota clause 23 and the Management Quota clause 20 in the prospectus.

 

3. Requirement of Eligibility Certificate: Only candidates who have qualified from boards other than Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE, and ISCE boards need to produce an eligibility certificate.

Tamil Nadu State Counselling: Round Wise Process

 

The DME, Tamil Nadu, oversees Tamil Nadu state counselling through four rounds of counselling: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Round.

 

Round 1 of Online Counselling

 

a) Candidates must pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 1,000/- and a refundable security deposit of Rs. 1,00,000/- via the online bank payment portal.

 

b) Candidates who do not register in Round 1 will not be allowed to participate in Round 2 of online counselling.

 

c) Candidates who take a seat but do not join or resign from the course within the stipulated time can attend subsequent rounds of online Tamil Nadu State Counselling for the academic year 2023-2024.

 

d) Re-allotment based on rank is only allowed during Round 2 of counselling.

 

e) Candidates who fail to join the college within the stipulated time in Round 1 will be permitted to participate in Round 2 of online counselling.



Round 2 of Online Counselling

 

Since Round 2 is a re-allotment round, fresh registration is not allowed. Candidates wishing to keep their college from the first round of online Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024 can skip the second round.

 

a) Candidates should be careful when filling their choices and are advised to choose only their preferred colleges.

 

b) Candidates can edit their choices, but once they lock them during online Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024, they cannot change them later.

 

c) If a candidate is re-allotted in Round 2, the MBBS/BDS seat allotted in Round 1 will be given to other candidates in descending order.

 

d) Candidates who do not join the course after Round 2 of online counselling will still be eligible for subsequent rounds of Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024 for the academic year.

 

e) Candidates who join but then discontinue the course after Round 2 of online counselling will be eligible for subsequent rounds of Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024 for the academic year 2023-2024. 

 

Note: However, they will have to forfeit the registration fee, security deposit, and tuition fee, and also pay the discontinuation fee.

 

 

Mop-Up Online Counselling

 

a. Candidates must pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 1,000/- via the online bank payment portal.

 

Note: Candidates who have already paid the registration fee in previous rounds of Tamil Nadu State Counselling only need to pay again if they have been allotted seats.

 

b. Downloading the allotment order (after paying the tuition fee) is considered as joining the college/seat, and the candidate must report to the institution within the reporting time.

 

Note: Failure to report will be considered a discontinuation, and the candidate must pay the discontinuation fee.



Stray Vacancy Round Of Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024

 

The Selection Committee will conduct an additional round of counselling in line with MCC/DGHS guidelines.

 

a) Candidates who do not have any seats in MBBS/BDS courses are eligible to take part in this counselling.

 

b) Candidates who have already accepted seats in All India or State Quota MBBS/BDS programs are not eligible for this counselling.

 

c) After paying the tuition fee, downloading the allotment order will be considered as acceptance of the seat, and the candidate must report to the institution within the specified reporting period.

 

Note: Failure to report will be considered discontinued, and the candidate should pay the Discontinuation Fee.

 

Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024 Eligibility Criteria

 

Basic Eligibility for Tamil Nadu State Counselling 2024:

 

  • Applicants must have passed the NEET UG exam.

 

  • Candidates should have completed their 12th grade or an equivalent course in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with a minimum aggregate score of 50%. For reserved categories, the minimum required score is 45%.

 

Eligibility for Management Quota Seats:

 

  • Candidates with a Tamil Nadu domicile are eligible for both government and management quotas.

 

  • Students claiming minority status must have a Minority Certificate from Tamil Nadu, issued by the school or the revenue department.

 

  • Minority criteria apply only if the students have studied from grades 6 to 12 in Tamil Nadu.

 

  • Tamil Nadu natives who are Christian are eligible for Christian Minority seats.

 

  • Students from other states in India can apply for the Management quota in Tamil Nadu.
