11,65,904 medical aspirants from the Unreserved category qualified NEET UG 2024. This is more than the total qualified NEET (UG) 2023 candidates (11,45,976) combined!

 

 

June 4 saw the declaration of the results of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) - UG 2024. This year saw the highest-ever qualification rate at 56.4%.

 

 

A record 13,16,268 candidates qualified, competing for 1,08,988 MBBS seats across 703 medical colleges. As of 2024, there are 29,088 BDS seats in 329 Dental colleges nationwide.

 

 

NEET UG 2024 saw unparalleled competition among candidates, as 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720/720. Moreover, 11,65,904 medical aspirants from the Unreserved category qualified NEET UG 2024. This is more than the total qualified NEET UG 2023 candidates (11,45,976) combined! 

 

 

NEET UG 2024 vs 2023: Rank Comparison

 

Another fact that testifies to the increased competition in the Indian medical counselling landscape is the high difference in All India Ranks. To give an example:

 

Scoring 500 in NEET UG 2023 would result in an All India Rank of 1,09,125. And in NEET UG 2024, the same score would secure an AIR of 2,10,250. The jump, with 1,01,125 ranks, marks increased competition for medical seats nationwide. 

 

 

 

NEET UG Category-wise Qualifying Cut-Off: Year-wise Analysis

 

Candidates from every category must be in a certain percentile to successfully qualify NEET UG. The range of marks that place a candidate in these percentiles changes yearly. These marks are called the qualifying cut-offs.

 

Understanding the number of candidates who appear for the exam helps us better analyze the increase in qualified candidates in each category. Also, the increased marks range in NEET UG qualifying cut-offs reflects the growing competition among candidates in each category.

 

 

 

 

As stated earlier, the 11,65,904 candidates qualified under the UR/EWS (Unreserved) Category are more than 11,45,976 qualified candidates combined in NEET UG 2023. We can further view the NEET UG 2023 Category-wise Qualifying Cut-offs among the qualified candidates as below:

 

 


 

Comparing the qualification trends of the past two years, results show that 1,70,292 more candidates qualified for the NEET UG 2024 exam. This marks a 12.93% increase in candidate qualification and can be detailed further by categories as below:

The increase in qualified candidates in NEET UG 2024 has also caused a spike in All India Ranks. Nothing highlights this fact better than comparing the rank difference for different marks in NEET UG 2023 and 2024.

Nothing highlights the increased competition more than comparing the NEET UG 2023 and 2024 ranks for the score of 500/720. The score that would have fetched an All India Rank of 1,09,125 in 2023 has resulted in an AIR of 2,10,250 in 2024.

 

 

As of 2024, India offers 1,08,988 MBBS seats across 703 medical colleges and 29,088 BDS seats in dental institutes. With the increasing number of qualified candidates, competition for these seats is more intense than ever.
